Multicultural Greek Council
The Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) at the University of Maryland serves as the governing body for culturally-based fraternal organizations (CBFOs), which were founded in response to the exclusion and marginalization of students of color and underrepresented identities from historically white fraternities and sororities. These organizations were established to create affirming spaces rooted in cultural pride, community empowerment, academic achievement, and social justice.
MGC is home to a diverse range of organizations that represent cultural, multicultural, religious, and identity-based affiliations, including members of national umbrella councils such as the National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations (NALFO) and the National APIDA Panhellenic Association (NAPA). Our MGC chapters are united by a commitment to uplifting marginalized communities, celebrating heritage, and leading through service and advocacy.
The council promotes collaboration among its member organizations, educates the campus community on issues of identity and equity, and provides a space for students to find connection, purpose, and pride in their cultures and communities.
Whether you’re interested in joining an MGC organization or seeking to learn more about their impact on campus, we invite you to discover the leadership, community, and cultural pride that define the MGC experience.
Visit our MGC Student Leadership page for more information on the current leadership of the MGC and Chapter President listing of each organization.
