FSL 101: Foundations of Fraternity & Sorority Life

What is FSL 101?
FSL 101 is a 45-minute educational program required for all potential new members (PNMs) before beginning their chapter education process. This program reflects the recommendations of the Fraternity & Sorority Life Transformation Initiative and aligns with federal guidance from the Stop Campus Hazing Act.

Why does it matter?
Joining a fraternity or sorority is a significant decision. FSL 101 ensures every potential new member has the tools and resources to make informed choices and to start their membership journey in a safe, supportive environment.

What will I learn?

  • An introduction to the UMD fraternity and sorority community
  • Hazing prevention and education
  • Alcohol and other drug safety
  • Joining processes and expectations

When do I need to attend?
Chapters may extend bids before PNMs attend a session, but all PNMs must complete FSL 101 prior to the start of chapter new member education.
