PHA Recruitment

The Panhellenic Association (PHA) at the University of Maryland oversees the recruitment process for the university’s 16 National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) sororities. Rooted in the values of scholarship, sisterhood, leadership, and service, PHA recruitment is an opportunity for students to explore a vibrant and supportive community of empowered women.

At the beginning of the spring semester, PHA facilitates a structured Primary Recruitment process, which allows potential new members to meet every chapter through a series of mutual selection rounds. During this process, students engage in meaningful conversations, learn about chapter values and philanthropic initiatives, and discover the sisterhood that makes each organization unique.

In addition to Primary Recruitment, some chapters may participate in Continuous Open Bidding (COB) outside of the formal process, typically in the fall or following spring recruitment. COB is a more informal opportunity to join when chapters have available space.  First-semester freshman students are not eligible to join via COB during the first semester, including women who have AP credits or were enrolled in a dual enrollment program. Students must register on Campus Director to participate in COB.

To participate in Primary Recruitment, students must:

  • Be enrolled at the University of Maryland
  • Have 12 credit hours and a 2.5 GPA
  • Register on Campus Director and pay the recruitment fee
  • Attend all required recruitment orientation and educational sessions

PHA encourages students of all backgrounds and identities to participate in recruitment and find a chapter where they feel at home. Whether you're looking for a community of support, leadership opportunities, or a chance to give back through service, Panhellenic recruitment is the first step in discovering the meaningful experiences that define Panhellenic sorority life at Maryland.
