Sexual Assault Prevention

Our vision is of a community that uses its values to guide choices and decisions, and we are working towards a fraternity and sorority community free from power-based violence. In recognition of the prevalence of sexual assault in fraternity and sorority communities, we collaborate with members and campus partners to provide education, resources, and pathways to engage in organizational and community change necessary in reducing sexual assault.

DFSL Giving Priorities

Our vision is of a community that lives by their values. Today, you have the opportunity to support these values. You can do so by supporting leadership programs that are offered through Fraternity and Sorority Life. You can also support individual chapters by giving to their scholarship or house funds. No matter how you choose to support Fraternity and Sorority Life, your gift today will ensure that we continue to instill these critical values in many generations to come.

Order of Omega

The Order of Omega is a leadership society for fraternity/sorority members, only admitting the top 3% of members on our campus. Students must excel academically, must have leadership experience, and serve their community to be considered. Order of Omega puts out an application each semester and chooses about 40 new members for the fall and for the spring. For more information you may visit Order of Omega web page.

Leadership Awards

The Department of Fraternity and Sorority Life annually hosts the Fraternity and Sorority Leadership Awards to recognize the accomplishments of our students and chapters. Awards are given out in the following categories:

For Families

The University of Maryland has had a long and rich relationship with its collegiate fraternities and sororities stretching back more than 100 years. As an important component of the co-curricular programs for undergraduate students, fraternities and sororities have supported the central mission of the University by providing an enriched out-of-class living/learning experience since they were first founded here on campus back in 1913. These groups are characterized by a tradition of involvement and leadership in campus life.

Summer Camps & Conferences

The University of Maryland owns 21 properties that are leased to Fraternity and Sorority alumni corporations for use by their members. Some of those chapters make their houses available for use during the summer months. Inquiries can be made to Stephanie Patterson, Assistant Director of Housing in the Department of Fraternity & Sorority Life (301-314-1987) or spatter2@umd.edu.

Each house has similarities in terms of layout yet many differences that set them each apart. Here is some other basic information:
