The Department of Fraternity and Sorority Life is committed to developing and supporting a preeminent Fraternity and Sorority community. Every fraternity and sorority at the University of Maryland, while social in nature, was established by their founders based on a commitment to certain values: brotherhood and sisterhood, service, scholarship, philanthropy and more. They believed that united rather than apart, they could make people better people. We believe that fraternities and sororities have the potential to be the most transformative part of the college experience.
Fraternity and Sorority Life at the University of Maryland has evolved over more than a century to become a vibrant, diverse, and values-driven community. What began as a small group of students living together after a campus fire in 1912 has grown into a dynamic network of organizations that foster leadership, service, scholarship, and lifelong connections.
In Fraternity and Sorority Life, we believe our organizations can be the most transformative part of the college experience. Our staff is dedicated to fostering a community that makes this vision a reality.
